Medium Cup by Yoshimi Tokuda
HS Code: 6914.90
Diameter: 6.2 cm
Height: 7.4 cm
About the works
The artist actively adopts the almost obsolete technique of urushimaki, and creates works while exploring the unique, deep, and delicate colors that can only be produced by this technique. The lacquer is loosened with turpentine oil and applied to the work. The unique colors and textures are obtained by baking the half-dried lacquer with powdered paint. The unique tone, which is vivid but also has a nuance as if time has passed, speaks to the viewer in a unique way when placed on a table or a shelf.
Yoshimi Tokuda

Born in Nagoya. Studied painting at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Worked in media and advertising production in Tokyo, but became deeply attracted to ceramics around 1990 and studied again at Tajimi Technical College. Upon graduation, she established STUDIO TOKUDA, which was selected for the Mino Ceramics Eternal Preservation in 2016.

- A Nuanced Palette: The cup features a vivid yet weathered aesthetic—a "nuance of passed time"—that speaks directly to the viewer through its depth and character.
- Recognized Craftsmanship: Created at STUDIO TOKUDA, the artist’s work has been honored by being selected for the Mino Ceramics Eternal Preservation (2016).
